Western Highlights II Motorcycle Tour Tour Itinerary
Arrive at Los Angeles International airport and transfer to your hotel. Overnight.
This morning you pick up your bike at EagleRider’s LAX location and begin your adventure that will take you all over the Western United States! Ride the winding mountain roads down to Lake Elsinore to the fashionable resort town of Palm Springs. Overnight.
From Palm Springs take Hwy 62 towards Joshua Tree, where you turn right on Park Blvd. Enjoy a scenic ride through Joshua Tree National Park – you see amazing colors, rock canyons, and more kind of cacti than you ever knew existed. Pick up Quail Springs Road and turn right at El Dorado Mine Road, then head south to Hwy 10, which will take you all the way to Phoenix. Phoenix is one of the fastest growing cities in the United States, mainly due to the dry climate and many days of sunshine. Overnight.
From Phoenix you head north on Hwy 17 until you get to Montezuma Castle, a National Monument of well-preserved ancient cliff dwellings, which you should visit. Continue to Sedona, a unique town with some dramatic otherworld scenery. Sedona is famous for its spiritual energy and a thriving art community. From uptown Sedona you take Hwy 89a and you will find yourself in a natural paradise for motorcycle travelers on your run through Oak Creek Canyon – probably the most intimate spot on the southern edge of the Great Colorado Plateau. The scenery may look familiar, since many scenes in cowboy movies had been filmed here. Hwy 89a will take you all the way to Flagstaff. Overnight.
From Flagstaff it is only a short ride to the fantastic Grand Canyon. Take Hwy 89 to Cameron, then enter Hwy 64 west and enjoy cruising along the South Rim. You will have all day to explore the majestic canyon, which is far larger than anything you can imagine. Overnight.
Take Hwy 64 towards Williams. Here your journey gets legendary appeal, as you enter historic Route 66, the “Mother Road”, which you ride all the way to Kingman. Kingman is considered the “heart of historic Route 66”. From Kingman you head for the glittering “entertainment capital of the world” to Las Vegas. Take Hwy 93 and enjoy a ride through Lake Mead National Recreation Area and the Cerbat Mountains. Hwy 93 will take you to one of the world’s greatest man-made structures, the Hoover Dam, which marks the border between Arizona and Nevada. Continue to Las Vegas. Overnight.
Today is at leisure to enjoy all that Las Vegas – the city steeped in excess -has to offer. Overnight.
You are leaving Las Vegas on Route 160, go up to Hwy 190, which will lead you west through the Death Valley – a lonely stretch, no twists and turns, just rolling desert. After defeating Death Valley you head on to Lone Pine, which is a purely American experience…more than 300 Western movies were filmed here. Overnight.
From Lone Pine you take Hwy 395, the road out of Lone Pine stays in true form: impressive mountains and straight runs. Continue north and you will blaze down the road with the Sierra Nevada’s on the left and the Inyo Mountains on the right. The spicy fragrance of the desert is just as bracing as the chill of the mountain air – enjoy this motorcycle friendly road! Ride up to the nice town of Lee Vining, where you enter Tioga Pass and then head all the way to Yosemite Village (74 miles). Overnight.
Today you are heading back to the Pacific Coast. Ride via Modesto and go north towards Napa Valley, where famed wineries welcome you for tours and tasting. Napa Valley is the closest you can come to riding along the Mediterranean roads. We suggest taking Hwy 99 from Modesto to Lodi, where you enter Hwy 12 west, which will take you up to Napa. You head back to San Francisco through Marin County and cross the Golden Gate Bridge into San Francisco, your base for the next two nights.
Today is at leisure to enjoy all that San Francisco – for many the most beautiful city in the world – has to offer. Overnight.
Enjoy one of the best motorcycle rides in the world, down legendary PCH (Hwy 1) along the Pacific Ocean. Breathtaking views of the coves and inlets of the Pacific coastline are yours as you are heading for Monterey. You might like to explore some of the Santa Cruz Mountain back roads. Have a cup of coffee at Alice’s Restaurant at famous Skyline Boulevard – a must for every biker! In Monterey enjoy life at Cannery Row or visit the Bay Aquarium. Overnight.
From Monterey your exciting ride continues south on PCH and we recommend a stop in the quaint village of Carmel. You might want to check out Hearst Castle in San Simeon for a glimpse into the lifestyle of the rich and famous. A little further south you come to Morro Bay – Central Coast at it’s best! Today’s destination is Pismo Beach – you are in Wine Country, this area is the home to award winning wines and premium vineyards. Overnight.
Continue your beautiful ride along the Southern Pacific Coast and head towards Santa Barbara - a beautiful seaside community with its famous old mission. Out of Santa Barbara you ride via Ventura, Oxnard, Malibu, and Santa Monica back to Los Angeles. Upon arrival it will be time to return your bike at EagleRider’s LAX location and transfer to your hotel. Overnight.
