Southern California Motorcycle Tour Tour Itinerary
Arrive in Los Angeles for your first overnight stop.
This morning you pick up your bike and are in for a ride down the Pacific Coast. Take Hwy 1 and cruise via the charming beach cities of Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, San Clemente, Carlsbad, and Del Mar, the sleepy upscale suburb of San Diego. Continue another 30 miles and you will arrive in San Diego, your stop for tonight.
Today you are heading inland – follow Hwy 8, which will take you through Cleveland National Forest and the southern tip of Anza Borrego Desert State Park. Stick with Hwy 8 and enjoy a scenic desert ride until you get to Yuma, located at the Eastern banks of the Colorado River. Overnight.
From Yuma take Hwy 95 and your journey will take you north towards Quartzsite, originally a fort for protection against Native Americans. Continue via Parker and a most scenic ride along the banks of the Colorado River into Lake Havasu City. This town captured the world’s attention in 1968 when the London Bridge was bought. Overnight.
Leave Lake Havasu City on Hwy 95 and go back to Parker, where you enter Hwy 62 and cross back into California. On your way to Mojave Desert you will be riding along sand dunes and several mountain ranges. Stick with Hwy 62 and your ride becomes historic, as you enter the Old Mother Road, Route 66. Hwy 62 will take you all the way into Palm Springs, your base for the next two nights. Overnight.
Today is at leisure and you will have time to explore Joshua Tree National Park. This California desert country contains striking granite formations and mountain ranges rising from flat valleys about 1,800 feet above sea level to elevations of more than 5,000 feet. The desert supports a wide variety of wildlife, including many resident and migratory birds – the park’s largest animal is the desert bighorn sheep. Return to Palm Springs and enjoy this fashionable resort by night. Overnight.
From Palm Springs you are riding through the mountains of San Bernadino National Forest, and into placid, slow-paced Idyllwild. Continue via Hemet, Lake Elsinore, Cleveland National Forest, and you can live a sport rider’s dream! Ortega Highway offers lots of sweeping curves mixed with S-turns and straights. In San Juan Capistrano you jump back on Hwy 1 and enjoy a scenic ride along the coast back into Long Beach.
Today your trip will come to an end with your departure flight back home.
