EagleRider is opening its doors to a new location in historic San Antonio. The south-central Texas town has a rich colonial heritage, including, of course, the famed Alamo. The Spanish mission, built in 1718, was the site of the 1836 battle for Texas independence. Guns long ago silenced, it is now a museum. The battle and its participants have been so vividly depicted in countless films, books and documentaries it is easy to step back in time. Stroll its grounds and imagine what it must have been like some 170 years ago as bullets flew, acrid gun smoke filled the air and the noise and dread of hundreds of rifles and cannon roared. Look around the walls and see how indefensible the mission really was and think about the courage it took to hold out during the 13-day siege and the horrific, hand-to-hand battle that followed.

Other notable attractions include the River Walk, which follows the San Antonio River. The pedestrian promenade is lined with cafes, bars and shops. Also worth a visit are the HemisFair Park and its 750-ft. Tower of the Americas; Mission San Jose, built in 1720 and the largest of the five San Antonio missions; the ornate Majestic Theater, built in 1929 and known for its domed ceiling painted with stars and clouds; Natural Bridge Caverns; the walking paths of Mission Trail; and a variety of museums, parks and historical sites that round out the city’s attractions.

Using San Antonio as home base, motorcyclists can take the 80-mile ride to Austin and enjoy its offbeat vibe, thriving music scene and the Republic of Texas Motorcycle Rally, usually the second week in June. More ambitious enthusiasts can turn their bikes east and ride 248 miles to the Lone Star Rally in Galveston, Nov. 1-4.

Available rentals include the Harley-Davidson Electra Glide, Street Glide, Heritage Softail, Road King and Road Glide. Rent by the day, week, or multiple weeks. Free use of a helmet is included in motorcycle rentals; apparel is available for sale.
