After a few hours exploring Missouri’s oldest and largest historic district, get on your bike and take First Capitol Drive to hook up with Route 94. Once you cross over Interstate 64, you’ll pick up one of the state’s original highways, built in 1922, and known as the Missouri Weinstrasse. This section of Route 94 offers some of the most breathtaking views in the entire state. You’ll take in the sweeping vistas of the Missouri River valley and the Osage Ridge with its tree-covered slopes. This region has made wine the center of the community landscape. Once there, you’ll understand why.
This route will take you through the St. Charles County towns of Defiance and Augusta and into Dutzow, with many opportunities to stop and savor the views. Historic Missouri wine country offers opportunities for relaxation and adventure. The Katy Trail State Park follows the Missouri River. Klondike Park offers great opportunities for hiking. You can even stop by the Historic Daniel Boone Home for a tour. Get off your bike and stretch your legs while you take in the views of this beautiful river valley. If you’re hungry, there are tasty options from salads to barbecue, and even chicken and waffles. Augusta offers unique shopping in a historic, walkable downtown setting, some great inns for an overnight stay, and a spa.
