EagleRider is opening its doors to a new location in New Orleans. The “Big Easy,” is known for its round-the-clock nightlife, jazzy music scene and spicy creole cuisine, a distillation of its history as a melting pot of French, African and American cultures. Stir in a little voodoo and the festive, sinful spirit of Mardi Gras comes alive. The late-winter carnival features bawdy costume parades, street parties and the magical power of colorful beads that tempt breasts to be bared. A French term, Mardi Gras translates literally to Fat Tuesday, which is the last day of indulgence, wickedness and gluttony before the long, hungry 40 days of fasting for Lent begin.
Halloween is also a natural time to be in New Orleans. It can be fairly described as just a bit toned down, less-crowded version of Mardi Gras. Costumes, parades and beads still abound. As for motorcycle rallies, the Steel Pony Express event was held for some years at the end of October but was discontinued in the wake of Katrina. New Orleans Bike Week replaced it in 2016, but it’s unclear if the rally will be held this year. Check online for updates. Other attractions include swamp and bayou tours, steamboat rides, ghost and vampire walks, true crime tours, St. Louis Cemetery tour, and historical tours of the Garden Distric, among many others. Visit Jackson Square and watch the artists paint, and for some traditional New Orleans jazz, Preservation Hall is a must.
Available rentals include the Harley-Davidson Electra Glide, Street Glide, Road Glide, Road King, Heritage Softail, Sportster 1200 and Honda Ruckus. Free use of a helmet is included in motorcycle rentals; apparel is available for sale.
