Plantation and Swamp Ride
Address: 2428 Williams Blvd. Kenner, Louisiana 70062
After leaving EagleRider New Orleans you will cross the Mississippi River Bridge and soon you will be off of the Big City Merry-go-round. You will know you are on Plantation Row by the long winding road along the Mighty Mississippi. Ole Man River is home to many beautiful plantations which serve as major drop off and pickup points for cotton and sugarcane in the world. These lavish plantations serve as the tell-all of wealth and culture in the 1800’s. Take a guided tour back in time, smell the sweet sugarcane and walk the plush grounds of antebellum mansions. You will come upon Laura Plantation where you will enter the world of the Creoles and the Oak Alley Plantation with its majestic rows of oak trees that are over 300 years old. Oak Alley Plantation also served as “Tara” in the 1939 film “Gone with the Wind”. Next is the similarly magnificent Saint Joseph plantation built in 1830. After your scenic tour through some of the nation's richest history, you can grab a bite to eat at Oak Alley or take a walk on the wild side at Zam’s Swamp tour. This is the real deal! Captain Zam is an alligator hunter but on his off season he and his family will load you in a boat and bring you for a swamp adventure that is exciting and educational involving hands on encounters with swamp critters big and small. And we can't forget about the famous cuisine at GatorBait Restaurant right on the bayou. Your trip will be around three hours of sight-seeing—not including the stops along the way to explore! On your way back make sure to ride the TAIL OF THE ALLIGATOR aka Hwy LA 307(also known as the Tail of the Alligator!) to US 90 and then back across the Mississippi River Bridge to The Big Easy where you can sit back and "laissez les bons temps rouler!"
