Mt. Evans Road to Echo Lake, Mt. Evans and Idaho Springs
This ride is a spectacular ride if you just want to get outta town and get a glimpse of what riding the Rocky Mountains are all about. A quick ride out of Denver and you are face to face with some of the best views in Colorado. You will travel through downtown Morrison, where you can meet up with other bikers, or just stop off for a quick bite at one of the many great dining spots. Up the road a ways you will pass through Evergreen, home of the world famous Little Bear Saloon, where you can catch a variety of local and national acts on any given weekend. Next stop. Mt Evans. The highest paved road in North America. You will hit tree line, and keep going up from there. The road can be challenging and weather can change quickly at over 12,000 ft. above sea level, so you will want to talk to the ranger at the entrance to see if there are any road conditions you should be aware of. After catching your breath, from the altitude and the views of Mt. Evans, you head back down towards Idaho Springs. Idaho Springs will have a variety of things to keep you occupied from great dining, to mining tours, and they even have a game room specializing in pinball machines. From here, it’s back to Denver on I-70. If your thirst for adventure hasn't been fully quenched by then, go ahead and move back into Denver by HWY 6 through Cold Creek Canyon and soak up the last few miles of scenic views before your find yourself riding past the world’s largest brewery in Golden.
