Monterey Bay/Cannery Row Loop Tour
This scenic tour includes California's famous Coast Hwy 1, with stops in Half Moon Bay and Santa Cruz. Along the way there are beaches, strawberry, artichoke, and pumpkin patches, and Ano Nuevo State Reserve where you can see Elephant Seals during the breeding season. Monterey features the Monterey Bay Aquarium and hundreds of great seafood restaurants along the historic Cannery Row. Leave SFO EagleRider via Interstate 280 South. In approximately 5 miles, take the Hwy 1 South exit toward Pacifica.Stay on Hwy 1 South toward Half Moon Bay where you can stop on Main Street to enjoy the cafes and shops. After the rest you can continue South on Hwy 1 toward Santa Cruz. There are many beaches in this section of Coast Hwy and Ano Nuevo. When you arrive in Santa Cruz continue South on Hwy 1 directly toward Monterey or take a few minutes to explore Santa Cruz, the Boardwalk (and the famous roller-coaster BIG DIPPER), cafes, ice cream stores, and shops. Return to Hwy 1 South to Monterey. It will take about one hour to get there. Along the way you will see many artichoke fields and sand dunes. Once in Monterey, you might like to stop at a cafe and plan your day. Note that the Aquarium may require reservations. We recommend you start there first and then enjoy a walk along Cannery Row. There are restaurants with a great variety of food that will meet everyone’s' tastes. You will also hear many barking seals and see sail boats on the Bay. Monterey is both a historic and picturesque town. Return to San Francisco via Hwy 1 North past Santa Cruz and up the coast. The other option is to return on a less scenic route via Hwy 1 North, Hwy 156 North and Hwy 101 North. Note however that this is the primary route so there will likely be more traffic.
