Lake Superior North Shore
The start of the ride is a 2.5 hour ride up the interstate to Duluth. There are alternate routes also to Duluth. The North Shore ride starts in Duluth heading Northeast on highway 61. Highway 61 follows the shoreline so you will be tempted to stop at all the waysides. Lake Superior is a travel destination for people from around the world. With several rivers flowing into Lake Superior, Gooseberry River and the Temperance are two of the main attractions with State Parks at each of them. Split Rock Lighthouse is another State Park and also a great stop for a view of Lake Superior. Grand Marais is a small harbor town about 85 miles north of Duluth. It still has that small resort fell to it. It is very cool when the fog rolls in and the Sea Gulls are flying and screeching overhead invisible in the fog. Grand Marais is also the beginning of The Gunflint Trail road the meanders north into the rugged north woods.
