EagleRider Kodak

EagleRider is now open for business at its new location in Kodack, TN, 23 miles east of Knoxville. It is located along State Highway 139 and State Highway 66, and just south of Interstate Highway 40. Some attraction in and around Kodak include Seven Islands State Birding Park, Thunder Road Distillery, Adrenalin [amusement] Park, Russell Stover Candies, Wheatlands Plantation, Great Smokies Flea Market, and the hopefully named, Optimist Park. Of course, Knoxville and surrounding areas offer a hearty dose of scenic rides into the Great Smoky Mountains.

Knoxville, home to the University of Tennessee Volunteers, sits on the Tennessee River. Its Market Square district is marked by 19th-century buildings with shops and restaurants. The Museum of East Tennessee History has interactive exhibits plus regional art, textiles and Civil War artifacts. James White’s Fort, built by the Revolutionary War captain, includes the reconstructed 1786 log cabin. Amusements include the landmark tower Sunsphere, Knoxville Zoo, McClung Museum of Natural History and Culture, and the downtown area along Gay Street.

But for motorcyclists, the big draw to the Knoxville area is the Great Smoky Mountains and famed Blue Ridge Parkway, one of the motorcycling’s most iconic rides. Noted for its scenic beauty, the Blue Ridge Parkway travels 469 miles from Cherokee, NC to the southern tip of Shenandoah National Park to the north, passing through the colorful town of Asheville and Roanoke along the way. It runs mainly along the Blue Ridge, a mountain chain that is part of the Appalachians. There are plenty of overlooks, picnic and camping sites, lodging and various local attractions along the way. No big rigs allowed and no speeders on this road; however, the parkway’s speed limit is a pokey 45 mph, so throttling out your machine is not an option.

Some rides favored by locals include the Top Secret Trail. The route starts in town and heads east through the Upper Cumberland Plateau and through the Appalachian foothills. Along the way, learn about the mysterious city of Oak Ridge, the Appalachian crafts around every corner, and the area’s coal mining history. If you complete the trail from beginning to end, you’ll traverse nine state parks, plenty of hiking trails, and even some off-road ATV trails.

The Knoxville Civil War Trail takes riders through some of the most notable scenes in the area. The ride starts on Chapman Highway at Fort Dickerson, a site of Union and Confederate battles. The tour also visits Fort Sanders, a Union outpost, as well as the Old Gray Cemetery, where fallen from both sides of the war still rest in peace, probably. Bleak House, a luxurious mansion that briefly served as a Confederate headquarters, is a highlight of the tour, as is Campbell’s Station, where the Battle of Knoxville was fought.

Motorcycles available to rent include Harley-Davidson Electra Glide, Street Glide, Heritage Softail, Road King and Road Glide. Rent by the day, week, or multiple weeks. Free use of a helmet is included in motorcycle rentals; apparel is available for sale. Check with the location for the availability of hotel or airport pickup/drop-off.
