Harley-Davidson Night Rod
For those who can’t decide between the original V-Rod and the sportier Street Rod, there is the Harley-Davidson Night Rod Special. This badass combines the V-Rod’s frame and aesthetics with the Street Rod’s engine and exhaust system and adds its own personal touches, resulting in a problem child that needs to be the center of attention—and its outstanding performance gets the attention it deserves. This is a serious bike that combines some of the best attributes of two other great HD motorcycles.
The VRSCDX Night Rod’s 1130cc, modified Street Rod engine delivers 115hp—more than enough to turn heads and take you to blinding speeds on the open road. Donated from the V-Rod are the stretched-out chassis, 3.7-gallon underseat tank, and 27-inch saddle height. The seat is comfortable enough to run out the gas tank several times, the suspension provides a full 4 inches of travel at each end, and the bike offers both midmount pegs and folding pegs up front, making comfort as important a concern as power and style.
The Night Rod was introduced in 2006 as a custom cruiser in the VRSC family. HD opted to shy away from the popular trend of simply adding displacement and weight to bigger and bigger V-twins, instead giving the Street Rod’s relatively modest powerplant some extra punch and wedding it to the cruiser chassis of the classic V-Rod.
