New Mexico Motorcycle Tour - Self Drive Motorcycle Tour

New Mexico and Southern Colorado simply offer some of the best uncrowded motorcycle roads on the planet, and the New Mexico Motorcycle Tour is no exception. This amazing three day ride kicks off in the beautiful city of Albuquerque before heading North through Santa Fe, Taos and Durango. Your journey will take you along winding mountain roads, high mountain passes, Southwest desert landscapes, and sacred Native American lands. One of the higlights of this journey is tracing the "Trail of the Ancients" scenic byway through New Mexico and Arizona, an area rich in geological history and 1,000 year old Native Human culture. Simply put, you would be hard-pressed to put together a better four day motorcycle ride in the Southwest.

New Mexico Motorcycle Tour

Today is a rare occasion where EagleRider actually suggests an early morning excursion before picking up you bike at our Albuquerque location. We love the idea of a sunrise hot air balloon ride over Albuquerque before kicking off your ride to Taos. We also have a "must-stop" lunch in Santa Fe for some famous Green Chili Stew before climbing the Sangre de Cristo Mountains to the beautiful mountain town of Toas. This will be a day you will never forget!

Day 2 :Taos, NM - Durango, CO
Miles : 205 Kilometers : 330

New Mexico Motorcycle Tour

Get ready for another great day or riding and adventure as you drop down out of Taos towards the Animas River Valley and the high desert landscape of Southwest Colorado. Nestled between the Animas River and the San Juan Mountains is the historic city of Durango, Colorado. Durango maintains a great feel as a "Cowboy Town", and you will find the people as welcoming as the warm air and scenery. If you are feeling adventurous, EagleRider can arrange an extra day for you in Durango so you can experience the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, a heritage railway, which travels from Durango to the historic mining town of Silverton, Colorado on steam-powered trains with rolling stock dating back to the 1920s and before.

Day 3 :Durango, CO - Cortez, CO
Miles : 205 Kilometers : 330

New Mexico Motorcycle Tour

The heart of today's ride is "The Trail of the Ancients", a registered US Historic Byway. This area is rich in Native Human culture and geology, and it inspires a feeling of wonder as you retrace a 1,000 year old path through history. This is the kind of day that takes a motorcycle journey to a new level of excitment as you ride your iron horse alongside ghost riders of the past. You will stand at the infamous "Four Corners", but your heart and mind will be lost in a time when there were no boundaries. Today, let yourself get lost in the history and wonder of this mystical place.

Day 4 :Cortez, CO - Albuquerque, NM

New Mexico Motorcycle Tour

It is the final day of your journey, but the riding and scenery are no less spectacular than any of the prior days. Today kicks off with a ride through Mesa Verde National Park, created in 1906 to protect some of the best-preserved cliff dwellings in the world. The Anasazi Indians inhabited Mesa Verde between AD 550 to 1300. Today, there are over 600 of the original cliff dwellings inside Mesa Verde National Park. Enjoy your time in the park and the beautiful ride back to Albuquerque!
