The Softail Standard is famous for finally combining classic good looks with a comfortable ride. Since 1984, this bike has exemplified HD’s commitment to producing reliable and great-looking motorcycles of the highest quality. The styling of the Softail Standard is pure and clean, and the bike packs plenty of punch. This is an excellent motorcycle for both beginning and expert riders, ready and willing to take you wherever you want to go.
Features
The Harley-Davidson Softail Standard sports HD’s time-tested 88ci, air-cooled, Twin-Cam engine. This powerplant is bolted quite firmly to the chassis, giving you reassuring feedback at all times. The tires are fat and fit the bike’s style beautifully, and the frame is perfect for riders anywhere near average height. The clutch is remarkably light in pull, and the handling absolutely defies the wide rear tire. While the engine transmits a considerable vibration to the rider, you’ll find the bike is surprisingly comfortable as well, due to its thick, two-up seat and ergonomic handlebar design.
History
The Harley-Davidson Softail line took the world by storm when it was introduced in 1984. HD had made a bike whose chassis radically changed the was rear suspension worked, resulting in a motorcycle that combined a hardtail look with a nice, cushy rear suspension. Over the last 25 years, the line has grown to comprise nine great models, none more representative of the Softail spirit than the Standard.
